• Senior Partner of Osborn Abas Hunt, Solicitors and Director of Yellow Triangle
• Experience: Madeleine qualified as a solicitor is 1996 and has spent her entire career advising organisations and their people in respect of health and safety compliance and enforcement. The majority of her clients are based within the construction industry and include some of the most significant infrastructure clients and major contractors in Europe, as well as a number of smaller specialist contractors. Through her training company, Yellow Triangle, she works with a wide range of people operating within the construction industry to help ensure they have a good grasp of how to meet their duties and continue improving.

Martin Ballard

• Employer / Role: Wates, Group Head of Environment
• Experience: Chartered Environmentalist and Chartered Manager with twenty five years in regulatory enforcement, utility operational and infrastructure contract management, most recently seven years built environment construction compliance auditory assurance and systems management.

Jamie Bardot BSc, LLM, CEnv, MIEMA

• Employer / Role: Morgan Sindall Assurance Director, Lower Thames Crossing / Head of Environment, Highways
• Experience:  A Chartered Environmentalist who started his career working as an ecologist across Europe before starting working on civil engineering projects in the water sector.  Jamie has spent 16 years providing environmental leadership across multiple development sectors bringing a pragmatic approach to facilitating major infrastructure projects from board level though to operations.  He is responsible to for several ‘firsts’ including the UKs first carbon calculator to inform investment decisions which included soil sequestration lost and early adopter of new working methods.

Robert Biggs BSc CEng MIStructE MICE FCIOB FRICS FCABE MCMI

• Role: Former Board Director and Chairman of the Considerate Constructor Scheme
• Experience: Robert has been a Scheme Monitor since 2002, becoming a Director in 2006, Vice Chairman in 2009 and then Chairman from 2010 until 2012. Director and Principal Consultant of Robert Biggs Associates Ltd, his former career has included senior positions with the Greater London Council and with the London Borough of Hackney, for whom he was Head of Engineering and later Director of Environmental Services. Robert is still active with the Considerate Constructor Scheme and is also an Assessor with the Building a Safer Future Charter.

Peter Brown

• Employer/role: Technical and Development Manager, Construction Plant-hire Association
• Experience: 47 years involved in the plant sector inc. roles within; manufacturer engineering R&D and technical, operational and product support; lecturing in Further Education; Plant Standards setting and qualification development at CITB inc. developer of the sector’s CPCS plant card scheme and finally as CPCS Product Manager. Current role at CPA includes technical and safety publications development and providing member H & S advice; Chair of the Construction Industry Plant Safety Group; Facilitator of the Plant Sector Representative Organisation; Member of BSI B/513/1 standards setting group.

 Mark Blundy

• Employer/role: Bowmer & Kirkland Group Director of Health & Safety
• Experience: Site Engineer followed by over 15 years as an HSE Inspector, and held senior roles in home building, civil engineering and construction since 2003. 

Richard Byrne

• Employer/role: – Group Director of HSE & Fleet at Travis Perkins Plc
• Experience: Having graduated from Aston University with a first class combined honours degree, Richard has amassed more than 20 years’ experience in Health and Safety and across the wider sustainability agenda, the last 12 of which have been at senior leadership levels in large, complex, higher risk businesses, including Network Rail where he was a Head of Route HSE. He is a Trustee of the ExtraCare Charitable Trust and enjoyed a 5-year tenure as a non-executive director of the Considerate Constructors Scheme and Chair of their risk committee. He is currently the Chair of the Builders Merchants Federation's Health and Safety Working Group.

Jamie Edmonds MSc, BSc (Hons), MCIEEM,PIEMA

• Employer / Role: Kier Infrastructure (Environment Agency Framework) Environment & Sustainability Manager  
• Experience: Over 13 years industry experience covering a wide range of disciplines from Highways to Rail to Environmental Services and Utilities. Specialising in ecology and community engagement.  Winner of the CIRIA 2018 BIG Biodiversity Champion.

Robin Gibson

• Employer/Role: Head of Environmental, Health and Safety (Siemens Mobility Limited - Rail Infrastructure UK)
• Experience: Robin currently leads the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team in Siemens Mobility and is responsible for EHS matters for all their Rail Infrastructure operations across the UK.  Robin has worked for over 20 years in the EHS field previously holding a range of senior roles providing leadership in the development of EHS across the breadth of the Construction and Infrastructure industry, including within the Highways, Education, Defence, Health, Commercial, Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Chemical and Utility sectors.

Brian Handcock MBA, PgDip, BSc(Hons), CEnv, MIEMA, MRSB 

• Role: Consultant
• Experience: With 33 years experience, Brian has held a series of senior leadership positions as an environmental professional across construction, consultancy, manufacturing and waste management industries and specifically with several of the UK leading construction contractors. He has also sought to drive the environmental agenda through Board, Chairmanship and active representations across industry groups including CIRIA, CECA, IGBC, BSi and other technical advisory groups.

Brian Holcroft CMIOSH

• Employer/Role: McCarthy Stone Director of Health, Safety and Environment
• Experience: 35 years of construction sector experience in varying roles including on site experience as a groundworker. The last 20 years in H&S management as a CDM Consultant on major national projects and currently leading H&S for a national homebuilder

Kris Karslake BEng (Hons), PIEMA

• Employer / Role: Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation - Sustainability Policy and Programme Manager | Part time freelance sustainability consultant  
• Experience: Over 15 years experience in the built environment covering a wide range of disciplines including civil engineering infrastructure, commercial office and residential portfolio management. Leading development of environmental management systems, sustainability strategies and life cycle analysis.

• Role/employer: Former Senior SHE Manager Kier Group plc. Now independent Health and Safety Consultant
• Experience: A Chartered Civil Engineer and Chartered H&S professional. Over 44 years experience across a wide range of construction and related sectors covering civil engineering, building, maintenance and facilities management, including  project management, design, consultancy and governance. Former head of SHE at UKCG and past Chair of ICE H&S Panel.

Neil Murray, BA (Hons), University of Keele, Postgraduate Diploma in Health and Safety, University of Aston, CMIOSH

• Role / employer: HSE (including Principal Inspector, Channel Tunnel Construction and Head of Construction Policy ), SGB Services Ltd, Thames Water, consultant with clients in construction, manufacturing and transport.
• Experience:  Over 40 years in health and safety, including HSE inspector over 23 years, then UK and international director and consultant roles in construction, water and waste water, engineering, rail and water transport and manufacturing. The creator of many award winning films including "The Cost of Accidents", and membership and trusteeship of key industry advisory committees.

 Suzannah Nichol  OBE

• Employer/role: Build UK, Chief Executive
• Experience: Inspired by a site visit during work experience Suzannah began her career in construction as a site engineer with the Lovell Group.  She then qualified as a health and safety professional before moving on to represent the industry.  Suzannah now heads up Build UK, the largest trade body in construction, and has been on the panel for over 20 years.

Naomi Nicholson Menv Sci, AIEMA

• Employer/role: Willmott Dixon, Environmental Manager
• Experience: With 22 years’ experience in the civil engineering and built environment sectors with proven credentials in Environmental Science and Health and Safety, Naomi has spent the last five years working at Wilmott Dixon. She is national lead for the company MiRisk system’s Land & Water theme, core responsibilities include maintaining legal content, remaining active in all active improvements to the electronic environmental risk assessment system, and ensuring that all site-specific actions that relate to each task suitably mitigate each risk.  Waste and resource efficiency have remained a key focus point throughout her career, having identified efficiencies to eliminate and reduce waste, driving initiatives to reuse and recycle before disposal at landfill. 

John O'Reilly

• Employer/role: Independent Consultant
• Experience: With over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry,  John specialises in management systems, strategy and the circular economy. During his professional career, he has driven change for several tier 1 contractors, harnessing processes and systems to embed sustainability into business as usual.

John Peters BSc(Eng) ACGI CEng CEnv MICE PIEMA 

• Employer/Role: Consultant /Contributing Editor of the Construction Environmental Manual.
• Experience: Formerly Technical Director and Director of Environment and Sustainability at the Construction Confederation (CC) engaging both with its constituent organisations and member companies to represent their common interests to and influence the policy of Government, the Regulators and other decision makers.  Provided information and advice to members and additionally, established the CC Environmental Forum for environmental professionals from member companies to mutually promote common standards and disseminate good practice. It is through this Forum that the Construction Environmental Manual was initially developed and published.

Keith Prince, BEng, CEng, MICE

Neil Rosiak BEng (Hons) CMIOSH

• Employer/role: Tilbury Douglas UK HSE Director
• Experience: Having over 25 years construction experience, most recently Neil has been Corporate HSE Manager in the UK for a global tier 1 contractor covering Construction, Civil Engineering and Facilities Management, and Head of HSE in the Middle East on a $3 bn Infrastructure Metro Tunnelling project. Neil is passionate about improving performance through empowering people to take ownership of their own HSE development.

Patrick Smith

• Employer/role: Mace, Senior Sustainability Manager
• Experience: Patrick is a passionate Senior Sustainability Manager with over 10 years' experience in construction and consultancy-based sustainability roles in the built environment sector, with a strong understanding of sustainable design, carbon reduction and green building certifications. He has a background in helping Mace’s supply chain and clients achieve their Net Zero Carbon targets, with a focus on reducing operational and embodied carbon throughout the development process, and he was the sustainability lead for Mace’s Commercial Offices business unit for over four years, delivering over 6,000t of carbon savings for his clients in 2021. Patrick is a strong communicator and has delivered sustainability training and net zero carbon workshops to the supply chain, as well as presenting at industry events such as Future Build and London Build

Kari Sprostranova

• Experience:  A health and safety professional for over 20 years, with experience across a number of industries including Waste, Engineering and Construction, including 2 years as Principal Inspector with the HSE with accountability for investigating serious incidents and complaints across the UK construction industry

Dr Anna Willetts

• Employer/role: Gunner Cooke, Partner
• Experience: Anna is an environmental criminal lawyer, specialising in defence work in the waste and recycling industry. She is dual-qualified, having completed a PhD in geochemistry and worked as an environmental consultant for 5 years before qualifying as a lawyer. Anna represents waste and recycling businesses and directors who are prosecuted by the regulators (Environment Agency and local authorities) for environmental and waste offences. She is the out going President of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management and a Trustee of the Board. She is also Co-Convenor of UKELA’s Waste Working Party
